The Niagara volleyball team travels to face archrival Canisius on Wednesday in the latest edition of the Battle of the Bridge series set for a 7 p.m. start.
The Purple Eagles head into Wednesday’s match as the top team in the conference (9-0) through the first half of MAAC play. Niagara has won 28 consecutive matches against MAAC opponents, including five in-a-row versus the Golden Griffins.
NU opened its home portion of the 2011 schedule with a 3-1 win over Canisius on Sept. 24 at the Gallagher Center in the first Battle of the Bridge match of the season. The Purple Eagles currently have a 3-0 lead in the season long series after the women’s soccer team downed Canisius 1-0 on Oct. 15.
The Purple Eagles are still leading the conference in hitting percentage (.245) and opponent hitting percentage (.182) and service aces (1.82), and are second in assists per set (12.38) and kills per set (13.45).
Canisius (9-11, 4-5 MAAC) has won two straight heading into Wednesday’s match. The Golden Griffins are currently sixth in the MAAC and will look to move up in the standings while hosting the top three teams this week.
