Women's Basketball Clipped By Peahens

Shy Britton

JERSEY CITY, N.J.  – The Niagara women’s basketball team was defeated by the Saint Peter’s Peahens, 68-55, on Friday night at the Yanitelli Center.

A career-high scoring night by freshman Shy Britton was not enough to snap Niagara’s (1-17, 0-7 MAAC) 12-game skid. Britton led the Purple Eagles in scoring with a career-high 16 points; 12 of the 16 points came in the second half. Britton scored four straight points to cap a 6-0 run to bring Niagara to 58-53 with 2:31 remaining in the game.

The Purple and White, however, would hit a cold stretch in the final minutes. Saint Peter’s (3-15, 3-4 MAAC) finished the game on a 10-2 run.

Freshman Chanel Johnson had nine points, four rebounds and a career-high three steals. Junior Meghan Waterman added eight points and tied a career-high with seven boards. SPC’s Teresa Manigrasso led the game with 20 points.

Niagara will visit the Fairfield Stags on Sunday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
