WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Niagara volleyball rebounded to defeat UNC-Wilmington on Sunday, 25-22, 21-25, 25-12, 25-14 in the final day of the UNC-Wilmington Classic. The victory came one day after the Purple Eagles (5-2) were swept by the Seahawks.
"We were able to regroup, focus and concentrate on what we needed to do," Niagara head coach Susan Clements said. "Our team pulled together, served excellent and blocked well."
For the seventh time in as many matches, sophomore Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a double-double with 13 kills and a match-high 20 digs. Freshman outside Kari Honomichl (Petersburg, Mich.) also continued her recent hot-streak, pounding out a match-high 19 kills in the win.
Sophomore setter Michelle James (Cincinnati, Ohio) handed out 47 assists in the four-set victory. She totaled 128 helpers in the three-day tournament after missing the Syracuse match earlier this week.
Junior Shannon Ryan (Fairport, N.Y.) and sophomore Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) also chipped in in big ways for the Purple & White. Ryan attacked at a .409 clip while recording 10 kills, while Bibler added eight kills and a match-high six blocks on her birthday.
Sophomore libero Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued her double-digit dig streak after recording 18 in the win. Her run of 37-straight matches, every match that she has played in since arriving on campus, currently ranks fifth in the nation.
Morgan (69 digs) and Hedrick (3 double-doubles) were named to the All-Tournament team.
