JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Niagara women's soccer team (6-6-1, 2-2-0 MAAC) was unable to find the back of the net in 2-0 loss against Saint Peter's (3-9-1, 1-3-0 MAAC) on Sunday morning.
"I'm disappointed with our effort today," head coach Peter Veltri said. "We weren't sharp. We need to put today behind us and concentrate on upcoming games."
Niagara was able to mount sustained offensive pressure in the first half, outshooting the Peahens by a 9-6 margin, but were unable to get one past Peahens netminder Caitlin Hoffer. The Peahens would take a 1-0 advantage into halftime, when Courtney Sundstrom was able to capitalize on a corner kick, beating junior goalkeeper Ashleigh Bowers (Liverpool, N.Y.) in the 40th minute.
Senior Chiara Greco (Hamilton, Ont.) took several shots early in the second half, but they were either stopped or just missed the net. The Peahens doubled their lead in the 71st minute, on a goal scored by Christine DeMedici.
The Purple Eagles are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when Niagara takes on cross-town rival Canisius in the first game in the fourth annual Battle Of The Bridge series.
