JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Niagara fell 64-46 to the Saint Peter’s Peahens on Friday night at the Yanitelli Center.
Senior guard Erika Harris (Gahanna, Ohio) led the Purple Eagles with 13 points.
Niagara (1-18, 0-8 MAAC) never settled into the game which was prevalent with its woeful early shooting numbers. The Purple Eagles were 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) at the seven minute mark and was down 22-10.
The shooting touch was not with Niagara tonight; the Purple Eagles would miss layup after layup in their attempt to cut into SPC’s (6-11, 3-5 MAAC) 19-point first-half lead.
Down 39-16 at halftime, Niagara started the second half much better. The Purple Eagles had cut the lead to 43-28 after a Harris’ jumper, but the Peahens reeled off three-straight 3’s to reopen their 20-plus point lead. The Purple Eagles continued to fight hard to get back into the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Niagara will travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face the Iona Gaels at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
