NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara volleyball team (0-6) lost in the final contest of the UMBC Tournament on Saturday to Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-3), 3-1. The Purple Eagles fell 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 25-15, despite attacking at a season-high .212 clip.

Freshmen Michelle James (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Holly Allgeier (Louisville, Ky.) were named to the UMBC All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the weekend. James totaled 35 assists on Saturday, giving her 105 for the weekend, while Allgeier totaled 11 kills against UMES, tying a career high and giving her 28 kills for the tournament.

Sophomore Lauren Costello (Webster, N.Y.) also claimed 11 kills on the afternoon, but the UMES offense was too explosive for NU. The Purple Eagles were out hit .352 to .212 and 56 kills to 49 in the loss.

"We attacked well as a team," Niagara head coach Susan Clements said. "It came down to blocking against UMES, and without a block up front, we were unable to have a strong back line of defense."

Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) picked up nine and eight kills, respectively, while Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) lead the team with 12 digs.

Niagara is back in action next weekend at the Wright State Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. The Purple Eagles open action against Florida State on Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.
