Manhattan Downs Volleyball, 3-1

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Niagara women's volleyball team (5-23, 3-13 MAAC) was defeated in four sets by the Manhattan Jaspers (9-16, 8-7 MAAC), 25-16, 11-25, 25-18, 25-14 at Draddy Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Lauren Costello (Webster, N.Y.) had a team-high 14 kills, attacking at a .357 average. She also had three blocks in the loss. Freshman Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) added 10 kills.

"Our blocking and passing were a let down (Saturday)," Niagara head coach Susan Clements said. "We were not able to adjust to what Manhattan was doing today. However, we did play like we were capable of in game two."

Freshman setter Michelle James (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued her assualt up the Niagara record books. Her 38-assist, 18-dig effort increased her season assist total to 1,059, just 75 assists shy of the Niagara single season record.

Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) also had 18 digs in the loss, while classmate Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) chipped in with nine kills and 15 digs.

The Purple Eagles take on Iona on Sunday before facing Canisius in the season finale on Nov. 15.
