NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara volleyball team (4-18, 2-8 MAAC) completed a season sweep of Loyola (4-20, 1-9 MAAC) with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 victory inside the 'Taps' Gallagher Center on Sunday. The Purple Eagles outhit the Greyhounds 41-29 in kills and .318-.120 in attacking percentage.
"(Sunday) we kept our focus from start to finish," head coach Susan Clements said. "We concentrated on quick sideouts and we were able to capitalize on their errors."
Freshman middle Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) attacked at a .333 clip with six kills to just one error. Fellow middle Lauren Costello (Webster, N.Y.) had nine kills and three total blocks. The pair combined for 19.5 points.
Freshman Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a match-high 10 kills for the Purple Eagles. Holly Allgeier (Louisville, Ky.) and Shannon Ryan (Fairport, N.Y.) combined for 13 kills in the win. Allgeier had nine kills in 21 attempts, while Ryan chipped in with four kills without an error in six attempts.
"Our middles were solid again, and the outside hitters really stepped up," Clements added. Holly was a smart hitter today, keeping Loyola off guard with her off-speed attacks. That really opened up the game for us."
Freshman setter Michelle James (Cincinnati, Ohio) managed a great offensive game for Niagara. She had 33 assists with six digs, while classmate Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a match-high 12 digs.
