Ambrose Scores 32 in Women’s Basketball Loss

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior guard Shaunna Ambrose (McKees Rock, Pa.) scored 32 points while junior Michelle Manfredi (Jefferson Hills, Pa.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds but the Niagara University women’s basketball team (13-15, 5-12) suffered a 78-65 loss to Siena College (8-19, 7-10) Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

"If we had one more Shaunna Ambrose, we’d be a pretty good team," Niagara head coach Bill Agronin said. "We played well in the second half but we just couldn’t get over the hump."

Shondaya Burrell led Siena with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Heather Stec added 16 points while Katelyn Dooley scored 15 points.

Burrell scored five points as Siena opened the game with a 10-2 run at 15:19. Ambrose completed a conventional three-point play at 2:42 to bring Niagara within seven, 29-22. Burrell and Dooley combined for seven of Siena’s eight points as the Saints closed the half with an 8-1 run for a 37-23 lead.

Siena used a 14-7 run to open the second half and take a 51-30 lead when Burrell completed a conventional three-point play at 14:34.

Manfredi brought Niagara within 10, 71-61, at 3:26 with a layup.

Niagara closes the regular season against Canisius College at 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the Koessler Athletic Center.
