NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Seniors Chantelle Wilson (Burlington, Ont.) and Shauna Ambrose (McKees Rock, Pa.) combined for 41 points but a three-point field goal with 6/10ths of second remaining lifted Manhattan College (9-18, 6-10) past the Niagara University women’s basketball team (13-14, 5-11), 70-67, Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Gallagher Center.
Ambrose led Niagara with 21 points while Chantelle Wilson poured in a career-high 20 points, including two free throws with 30.8 seconds left to force a 67-67 tie. Manhattan’s Annie McIntyre sank a three-point field goal with the clock winding down to give the Jaspers the win.
Manhattan was led by Kelly Regan’s 22 points. Caitlin Flood added 16 points and nine assists while Gabrielle Cottrell netted 10 points.
Chantelle Wilson made two three-pointers and Sarah Wilson (St. Catherines, Ont.) added a baseline jump shot to spark Niagara’s 8-0 run to give the Purple Eagles a 56-49 lead with 7:31 remaining. Manhattan responded with a 12-4 run to take a 61-60 lead after a Cottrell three-pointer with 4:03 to play. Manhattan took a 65-60 lead when Regan scored inside at 2:38.
Ambrose then sank two free throws to bring Niagara within three, 65-62, with 2:20 left. Cottrell scored after a steal for a 67-62 lead and then Sarah Wilson sank a three-pointer. Manhattan turned the ball over and Chantelle Wilson hit two foul shots to force the 67-67 tie, setting the stage for McIntyre’s shot.
Sarah Wilson finished with 10 points in a reserve role. Niagara junior Sara Prybyl (Mars, Pa.) snared a game-high nine rebounds.
The Purple Eagles return to action Feb. 23 when they travel to Albany to take on Siena College at 7 p.m.
