MAAC’s Best Too Much for Volleyball in 3-1 Loss

Raelean Rush

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Siena Saints (12-3, 7-0 MAAC), defeated the volleyball team (4-12, 2-5 MAAC) Saturday in Loudonville, N.Y., 30-21, 30-12, 24-30, 30-24. The Purple Eagles started sluggish and the Saints compiled a .247 hitting percentage in the victory.

"We started off flat (Saturday)," head coach Susan Clements said, "and you can’t do that against a team as good as Siena. We need to be more consistent in our offensive ability in order to compete in the MAAC."

The Purple Eagles picked up their serving and blocking in the third set, en route to a 30-24 win. The offense came alive as well, as Niagara attacked at .218 for the final two sets. The Purple Eagles had 15 kills in the first two games combined, but totaled 15 in each of the final two sets of the match.

Senior Raelean Rush (Amherst, N.Y.) continued her strong play in conference games. The outside hitter recorded her seventh-straight double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Junior Nicole Piette (Lockport, N.Y.) also collected 12 kills while attacking at .159 on the day.

The victory was the 11th in a row for the Saints, who sit atop the conference with a 7-0 record.

The Purple Eagles continue their weekend road-trip Sunday at Marist. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
