BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with rival Canisius on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y.  The Purple Eagles now own a 9-5-2 record (4-1-2 MAAC), while the Golden Griffins are 6-8-2 overall (3-3-1 MAAC).

Senior Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.) opened the scoring in the 18th minute, settling a loose ball in the box and beating the Canisius goalkeeper to the right corner for her MAAC-leading 10th goal of the season.  With 59 career goals, she ranks third all-time in goals scored and third all-time in points scored (140) at Niagara.

In the 72nd minute, Canisius’ Megan Jones scored her first goal of the season, finding the back of the net on a penalty kick.

Despite giving up the game-tying goal, freshman goalkeeper Ashleigh Bowers (Liverpool, N.Y.) turned in a solid performance in net for the Purple Eagles, grabbing a career-high nine saves.

For the match, the Golden Griffins out-shot NU, 17-13.

Up next, Niagara travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y, on Friday, Nov. 2, to take on Marist at 7 p.m., before facing Siena on Sunday at noon in its final regular season match.
