NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The volleyball team (5-14, 3-7 MAAC) pounded out 72 kills en route to a four-set victory over Canisius College (7-14, 5-5 MAAC) Sunday, inside the Gallagher Center, 26-30, 30-24, 30-23, 30-23. Three Purple Eagles recorded at least 15 kills in the victory.

Senior Mallory Boron (Lockport, N.Y.) set a season-high with 63 assists, setting the pace from the opening serve. The total was one off her career-high passing total.

"Our serve and receiving game was flawless (Sunday)," Niagara head coach Susan Clements said, "Mallory played great and really passed the ball well to set things up for us."

Niagara had 16 kills in the first and third sets and 20 kills in the second and fourth sets. The Purple Eagles’ attack percentage improved in every game, as Niagara committed just four errors in the third and six errors in the fourth set. All eight Purple Eagles had a positive hitting percentage.

Senior Raelean Rush (Amherst, N.Y.) had a match-high 24 kills, while junior Nicole Piette (Lockport, N.Y.) added 18 kills with a .255 hitting percentage. Senior Maurin Lawrence (Corfu, N.Y.) had 15 kills while hitting .242.

"Maurin really stepped up for us today to give us another option," Clements said.

The match was filled with season highs for Clement’s crew. Besides Boron’s assist totals, Piette’s 18 kills tied a season high and freshman Rebecca Suchy (Lancaster, N.Y.) set a season and career high with 21 digs.

Niagara hosts a pair of conference matches against Fairfield and Iona, Oct. 20 and 21, in the Gallagher Center.
