NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s soccer team (4-3-0) scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Little Three rival St. Bonaventure (1-7-1) Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Niagara Field.
Trailing 2-0 in the second period, sophomore Stephanie Gartley (Sarnia, Ont.) got the Purple Eagles on the board in the 74th minute when she dribbled the ball past Bonnie goalkeeper Lisa Eberhart.
Just over a minute later, in the 75th minute, senior Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) netted her fourth goal of the season when sophomore Caitlain Long (Fort Collins, Colo.) passed to Montgomery who then kicked it in from 10 yards out.
Gartley scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 84th minute when junior Natalie Frost (Elmira, N.Y.) passed to Gartley from the top of the box.
St. Bonaventure got the board first when Katelyn Shelofsky got a high, looping shot past Niagara freshman keeper Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio) in the 18th minute.
Kerry O’Malley made it 2-0 when she scored on a corner kick from Kristin Sotak in the 52nd minute.
Stephens made six saves in the win and Eberhart had 11.
The Purple Eagles return to action Friday with a 3:30 p.m. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match against Saint Peter’s at Niagara Field.
