Women’s Soccer Team Loses in Double Overtime

Aisha Eversley

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Another late goal, this one in double overtime, was again the difference as the Niagara University women’s soccer team (3-3-0) lost 3-2 to Robert Morris (2-2-0) Friday afternoon.

Stephanie Kuhn scored the game-winning goal in the 103 minute when Christina Nicholson fed her a pass for a breakaway.

"We played extremely poor and Robert Morris was able to capitalize on their opportunities," Purple Eagle head coach Peter Veltri said.

Niagara tied the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute when sophomore Aisha Eversley (Mississauga, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season. She scored on a one-touch pass off a short cross from junior Natalie Frost (Elmira, N.Y.).

The Purple Eagles took the lead in the second half when sophomore Stephanie Gartley (Sarnia, Ont.) scored her third goal of the season 20 seconds into the second period. Senior Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) stole a pass and sent Gartley on a breakaway.

The Colonials forced overtime when Hilary Nellis scored from 30 yards out in the 53rd minute.

Freshman Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio) made two saves for Niagara while Jessica Onufer had six for Robert Morris.

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it plays at Duquesne at 1 p.m.
