Let’s Drop the Puck
The Niagara University men’s hockey team embarks on its 11th season this weekend with single games at Clarkson and at St. Lawrence. The Purple Eagles battle the Golden Knights Friday at 7 p.m. and the Saints Saturday at 7 p.m.
Season Openers
Friday’s contest marks the first season since 2001-02 that Niagara opens on the road. Overall, the Purple Eagles are 2-8 in season openers, picking up their second victory last year vs. Clarkson, in a 6-3 win at Dwyer Arena. On the road, Niagara has a 1-2 record.

Last Time Out
Niagara wrapped up its 2005-06 season at the CHA Tournament in Detroit, Mich. In a 3-2 first-round win over Robert Morris, Sean Bentivoglio and Pat Oliveto gave Niagara a 2-0 lead after the first period, but Robert Morris tied the game with a pair of goals in the second. Purple Eagle Matt Caruana scored the game-winner in the third with just over a minute left. Niagara’s dream of a third trip to the NCAA Tournament came to an end in the finals with a 4-2 loss to Bemidji State. Vincent Rocco and Ted Cook had the Purple Eagles’ goals in the third period.
