NEW ROCHELLE., N.Y. – Junior Maurin Lawrence (Corfu, N.Y.) had a match-high 12 kills and hit .417 but it wasn’t enough as the Niagara University volleyball team (4-18, 2-13) lost 30-23, 30-26, 30-23 to Iona College (6-16, 4-9) Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Hynes Athletic Center.
Lawrence was had 12 kills, two errors and 24 attempts, and also collected a match-high six block assists. Classmate Sara Mancini (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) had a match-best 19 digs. Senior Jessica Piscitelli (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and junior Mallory Boron (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) each collected 11 digs. Boron and sophomore Nicole Piette (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) had four block assists.
Niagara as a squad had 13 team blocks, but 10 service errors, 11 receiving errors and a .076 hitting percentage was the difference in the match.
The Purple Eagles return to Monteagle Ridge for its final home stand when it hosts Siena College Nov. 4 at noon.
