NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Powered by 20 kills from Jazmin Pa’akaula, Fairfield University (14-6) improved to 11-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action with a 30-25, 30-15, 30-12 victory Sunday afternoon over Niagara University (4-16, 2-11) at the Gallagher Center.
Niagara held a 12-11 lead after two kills and a block assist from sophomore Nicole Piette (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) early in game one. Pa’akaula then recorded the first of her kills to tie the game and then added another to give the Stags a 13-12 lead. Pa’akaula, who later added back-to-back kills to give Fairfield a 17-13 edge and then three more to give it a 28-23 lead, finished the first game with nine kills.
Pa’akaula continued her strong performance with seven kills in game two. Katie Mann picked up four kills as Fairfield pulled away from a 16-13 lead to take a 23-13 lead. Mann finished the second game with six kills. Pa’akaula ended the game with a kill.
Fairfield used back-to-back kills by Pa’akaula to open a 7-2 lead in game three. Mann later recorded back-to-back kills to give the Stags an 18-5 lead. Mann finished with 14 kills.
Piette and junior Maurin Lawrence (Corfu, N.Y./Notre Dame) each finished with nine kills to lead the Purple Eagles.
Niagara returns to MAAC action at 2 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
