Women’s Soccer Earns Double Overtime Tie

ELMA, N.Y. – Senior Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) scored two goals to help the Niagara University women’s soccer team (7-5-1, 3-1-1) to a 3-3 double overtime tie with Marist College (4-10-1, 2-4-1) Friday afternoon at Sahlen’s Sports Park.

Trailing 3-1 in the second half, sophomore Stephanie Gartley (Sarnia, Ont.) scored her 11th goal of the season when sophomore Caitlin Long (Fort Collins, Colo.) dribbled the ball up the middle of the field, passed to Montgomery on the left who then feed Gartley in front of the net in the 67th minute.

Montgomery tied the game with her second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season when she converted on a free kick in the 78th minute.

Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Christina Langrell (Tillsonburg, Ont.) served the ball from the left corner to Montgomery to the side of the goal where she beat Marist keeper Anna Case to the lower left side in the first minute of play.

Marist scored the next three goals as Caitrin Farry scored on a give-and-go play from Kate Fox in the 47th minute.

Laura Zasly made it 2-1 Red Foxes in the 60th minute when Keri Koegel served the ball and Zasly scored on a scramble in front of the net.

Fox picked a goal when she taped the ball in from the box after Niagara keeper Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio) was pulled out of the net.

Stephens finished with five saves and Case with eight.

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it hosts Siena College at noon at Niagara Field.
