NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University volleyball team (4-1) tied the school record for the best start after winning its second consecutive five-game match with a 30-25, 16-30, 28-30, 30-25, 15-11 victory over Navy (4-2) late Friday night at the Trident Classic Tournament in Annapolis, Md.
The Purple Eagles tied the 1991 team for best start and currently have a four-game winning streak dating to Sept. 3.
"We got a lot of good combinations that setup our hitters for one-on-one situations," head coach Rocco Lucci said. "Our setters made good choices tonight. They kept the flow of the game and used sets that worked."
Senior Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) hit .255 with a season-high 22 kills. The outside hitter also added 12 digs. Classmate Micole Daluisio (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) had a match-high 26 digs.
Niagara returns to action Saturday when it meets Delaware State at 10 a.m. at Mcdonough Hall.
