Purple Eagles Capture Second Tournament of 2005


Sophomore Raelean Rush collected 28 kills in two matches Saturday.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University volleyball team (8-5) won its second tournament of the season Saturday when it beat Robert Morris and Coppin State in the Red Flash Invitational in Loretto, Pa. The Purple Eagles beat the Colonials, 30-27, 30-22, 29-31, 30-24 and the Eagles, 30-27, 30-22, 28-30, 30-21.

Leading the way for Niagara was sophomore Raelean Rush (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home). The outside hitter collected 14 kills in each match. Senior Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) had 12 kills and 15 digs vs. Robert Morris and 11 kills against Coppin State. Senior Erin Graham (Oakville, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 12 kills and 26 digs vs. the Eagles.

Niagara surpassed its win total from last year with its three victories this weekend. The Purple Eagles return to action next weekend when they hosts St. Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris in the Gallagher Center.
