NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – After winning five of its first six matches on the season, the Niagara University volleyball team (5-3) dropped its second consecutive match with a 24-30, 28-30, 27-30 loss to San Diego State Friday afternoon in the 2005 Medical Mutual CSU Invitational at Cleveland State.
"They were taller than us and hit hard balls, but our blocking was awesome," head coach Rocco Lucci said. "Our blocking kept us in the match. We also had our bench tested against good competition and they did well."
Senior Stephanie Hopkins (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) had a team-high eight kills and added 11 digs. Classmate Erin Graham (Oakville, N.Y.) also had eight kills and eight digs. Senior libero Micole Daluisio (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) had a team-high 16 digs. Senior Karen Simpson (Rochester, N.Y.) hit .429 with six kills and added a solo block and five assisted blocks. Niagara hit .114 but had two solo and 18 assisted blocks.
