NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara University senior Juan Mendez (Montreal) picked up his biggest postseason award of the season when he was named an Associated Press All-America Basketball Team Tuesday.
Mendez joins consensus All-American Calvin Murphy (1968-70) as the only two Purple Eagles to be named to an AP Basketball team.
The 6-foot-8 forward finished the season averaging 23.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field, 30.5 percent from three-point range and 81.5 percent from the free-throw line.
