Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Manhattan, 1-0

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Sophomore Katy Owings registered her fourth shutout of the season as the Niagara University women’s soccer team (8-5-1, 3-2-1) returned to the win column with a 1-0 win over Manhattan College (1-13-1, 1-4-1) Friday afternoon at Niagara Field on the Monteagle Ridge campus.

Freshman Natalie Frost picked up her second collegiate goal in the 37th minute mark when she jumped on a rebound off a shot from sophomore Jenna Sporta.

Manhattan had its best chance a scoring on the Purple Eagles when in the 23rd minute of the first half Rachel Pannullo hit one off the right post after Niagara had a defensive breakdown.

Owings made two saves in net while playing 73 minutes. Senior Melissa Himes shares the save, playing 17 minutes. Alicia DeFino made eight saves for the Lady Jaspers.

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it hosts Saint Peter’s at 1 p.m. The game is the final home contest for the Purple Eagles this season. Admission is free to the game.
