OLEAN, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s basketball team (3-3, 1-1) lost to St. Bonaventure (3-4, 0-0), 73-69, Tuesday at the Reilly Center on the campus of St. Bonaventure University.
Junior Eva Cunningham (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) and senior Ann Mimm (Girard, Pa./Girard) each tallied 20 points to lead Niagara scorers. Cunnignham went 7 of 14 from the field, but struggled beyond the arc, making only 1 of 6 three-point attempts. Mimm, who set a season high for points, went 8-for-16 from the field, including 4-for-8 from three-point range.
St. Bonaventure’s Stephanie Collins led all scorers with 22 points.
Niagara held a five-point edge at the half, after Cunningham hit a jumper with five seconds remaining in the stanza. The Purple Eagles jumped out to a 16-point lead when Cunningham made her only three-pointer of the evening, with just over five minutes gone in the second half. The Bonnies trimmed Niagara’s lead to seven capped by a 9-0 run. Niagara was unable to put the Bonnies away, as St. Bonaventure outscored Niagara 23-12 over the final 13 minutes.
Niagara returns to action Dec. 19 vs. Oakland University at the Gallagher Center at 7 p.m.
