NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each picked up a win this past weekend in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meet at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y.
The women’s team beat Canisius, 151-84, but lost to Siena, 68-36, and Fairfield, 73-38. The men’s team defeated Canisius 137-65, but lost a heartbreaker to Fairfield, 57-56.
For the third meet in a row, the Purple Eagle women’s 400 free relay team of Jody Pangborn, Stacie Thoman, Heather Link and Traci Liberi captured first-place in 3:49.84.
Karolina Bazylewicz finished second in the 100 breast (1:11.69) and third in the 1650 (19:29.41). Christen Kane was scond in the 400 IM (5:00.81), Liberi was second in the 100 free (55:43) and Link finished second in the 100 back (1:02.40).
First-place finishers on the men’s side were the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. In the 200 medley, Kevin Klein, Brian Griffin, Jason West and Mike Yacos finished in 1:42.04, and in the 400 free, Klein, Brandon Smith, Nate Katz and West finished in 3:22.26.
Freshman diver Dave Germian remained undefeated on the one- and three-meter boards. He scored 180.80 points on the one-meter and 212.50 on the three-meter.
Katz won the 100 butterfly (56.88), Klein the 100 back (55:23), and Griffin the 100 breast (1:01.58).
Niagara returns to action the Dec. 5-6 when it travels to the Colgate Invitational to compete against the Red Raiders and MAAC foes Loyola and Marist.
