Niagara Women’s Soccer Ties IPFW

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara women’s soccer team (3-5-2, 1-0) tied Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW), 1-1, Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field. Niagara’s sophomore defender Amber Niece (Port Colborne, Ont.) scored the goal for Purple Eagles in the 30th minute of play.

"This is just another game where we did not put the other team away when we had the opportunity," said head coach Peter Veltri. "As a team we have to learn to take advantage of those opportunities."

Niagara’s lone goal of the afternoon was scored on a penalty kick by the Port Colborne, Ont. native Niece.

IPFW’s lone goal of the afternoon was scored by Nicole Halls who managed to get the ball past Niagara’s Katy Owings (Annapolis, Md.) on a goal mouth scramble. Owings made 13 saves in the game while IPFW goalie Timeka Bailey made eight saves.

The Purple Eagles are back in action next Friday evening when they travel to Marist for their second conference game of the season. Game time is 7 p.m. at Marist Stadium.
