Niagara Volleyball Loses in Three Games at Syracuse

Sophomore Erin Graham

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University volleyball team (3-13) lost its second-straight match and the 11 consecutive to Syracuse when the Orangewomen beat the Purple Eagles in three games, 30-17, 30-18, 30-20, Monday night at Manley Field House.

"When you don’t do basic volleyball skills right, you can’t score points," Niagara head coach Rocco Lucci said. "About the only thing we did well was our back-row defense was good."

Niagara out-dug Syracuse, 55-49, but the Orangewomen hit .278 for the match compared to the Purple Eagles’ .017.

Neither team had a player in double digits in kills. Niagara was led by sophomore Erin Graham (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield Alabama), who had a match-high nine kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Micole Daluisio (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) had a match-high 17 digs and senior Anne Nugent (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) recorded a career-high 10 digs in the match.

Syracuse was led by Jessica Logan who had nine kills and 11 digs.

The Purple Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Gallagher Center this weekend when they host St. Francis (Pa.) Friday at 7 p.m. and Binghamton Saturday at 7 p.m.
