Men's Basketball Drops Game At Buffalo

The Niagara men's basketball team fell to 1-5 on the season with a 75-64 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday in front of 2,206 at Alumni Arena. Juniors Tremmel Darden (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) and James Reaves (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) paced the offensive attack with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Reaves had a game-high eight rebounds.

Buffalo never trailed in this game and pushed the first-half lead out to double digits at 33-23 with 2:14 to play in the period. Niagara scored six unanswered points to close out the half and pull within four, 33-29. Darden had four of the six points in the run and finished the half with 10 points.

Buffalo responded with nine unanswered points to open the second half, moving the lead back to double digits at 42-29. Niagara could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

"This is a team with very little room for error," said head coach Joe Mihalich after the game. "We know we can get this together and we will. It's been frustrating that we have not."

The loss broke a four-game win streak for the Purple Eagles in the series with Buffalo. Niagara still holds the overall edge, 56-24.

Next up for the Purple Eagles are back-to-back Saturday afternoon non-conference contests at the Gallagher Center. This Saturday, Niagara hosts Akron on Hall of Fame Day. The six newest members of the Niagara Athletics Hall of Fame, who will be induced earlier that afternoon, will be introduced to the crowd at halftime of the game. The Purple Eagles will then take a break for final exams before returning to the hardwood on Saturday, December 21 to host Drexel. Both Saturday games will tip off at 4 p.m.
