Cheer

The NU cheerleaders practice at Niagara University as well as Elite Heat All stars in North Tonawanda. Niagara University's Cheerleading program typically consists of 20 female students working to make the team skilled and competitive. The team participates in men's and women's home basketball games, the MAAC tournament, collegiate competitions, and other school events, as well as outside promotional exhibitions, children's clinics and camps, and fundraisers. The cheerleaders also represent N.U. at a variety of community and charitable events.

Requirements:

  • Attend all practices. Practices are usually held for 2-3 hours, two nights a week for the first semester, and increase to at least three a week the second semester.
  • Condition 3-5 days per week. In addition to practices, cheerleaders are expected to maintain fitness levels necessary to perform competitive cheerleading routines while aiding in the prevention of common injuries associated with cheerleading.
  • Participate in team activities. The team cheers for all men's and some women's basketball games, competes at local competitions and NCA Nationals, fundraise for related team expenses, and take part in community service.
  • Attain tumbling and stunting skills. Cheerleaders are evaluated on how much potential they have to meet collegiate expectations, and to contribute to the team.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
