Softball Falls Short Against Mount St. Mary’s

Emmitsburg, NJ – Softball knotted the contest in the seventh inning but eventually fell short 3-2 to Mount St. Mary's at Our Lady in Meadows Field in Emmitsburg, NJ. 
 
After a scoreless first two innings Mount St. Mary's got on the board first as Gina Del Giorno recorded a sac fly to bring Maya Alverez home to put the game at 1-0.  
 
The Mountaineers doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth as Lia Festa homered to center field to make the contest 2-0. 
 
Niagara recorded their first run of the contest in the top of the seventh as Carmella Phelan doubled down the left field line that drove Donnalea Barnett home to cut the Mountaineers led in half. 
 
The Purple Eagles knotted the game at two as Sophia Marrero singled up the middle to drive home Carmella Phelan to put the game at two apiece.  
 
The Mountaineers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh as Emma Tawney was walked with the bases loaded to make Mount St. Mary's victorious 3-2. 
 
Ryan Hatty recorded the start in the circle for the Purple and White as she pitched five innings as she saw 20 batters. Jenna Martin came in a pitched the final 1.2 innings as she faced 10 batters as she struck out one. 
 
Niagara Notes 
• Niagara goes to 8-7 all-time against Mount St. Mary's  
• Barnett extended her hitting streak to four games as she went 3-3 on the day, the freshman also recorded a career high in hits with three 
• Ella Fowler recorded her first collegiate stolen base 
• Ella Sheehan recorded a career best in hits with two

Niagara Softball is back in action tomorrow April 4th to close out the three game seri es with the first game of the doubleheader slated for 11 a.m.
