Moon Township, Pa. - Men's Hockey dropped a 5-1 decision to Robert Morris Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action.
The Purple Eagles fell to 10-19-1 overall, 7-14-1 in conference play, while the Colonials improved to 10-17-3, 10-10-2 AHA.
Niagara came out firing in the opening frame, outshooting Robert Morris 11-4 and controlling much of the territorial play. The Purple Eagles generated quality chances, with Noah Hackett, Ross Roloson, Nicholas Niemo, and Ray Murakami all testing Colonials goaltender Lucas Massie.
Robert Morris capitalized on their limited opportunities when Rasmus Larsson buried the game's first goal at 6:05, assisted by Julian Beaumont and Michael Felsing, sending the teams to intermission with the Purple Eagles trailing 1-0.
The Colonials doubled their lead when Cameron Garvey scored short-handed at 7:33, assisted by Tanner Klimpke.
Beaumont made it 3-0 at 10:16 on an even-strength tally assisted by Felsing and Dominic Elliott.Â
Niagara finally broke through late in the period when Hackett notched his 10th goal of the season at 16:34, with assists from Andy Reist Niemo, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
George Krotiris extended Robert Morris's lead to 4-1 just 3:43 into the period, assisted by Bruce McDonald and Zeke Nicholson. Elliott added an insurance goal at 7:30, assisted by Klimpke and Gabriel Lunn, making it 5-1.
Deivs Rolovs came in relief and stopped all six shots he faced over the final 9:13. Niagara managed seven shots in the third period.
