Women’s Basketball Falls Short in Road Contest at Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Niagara women's basketball battled through adversity Monday afternoon but came up short in a 62-49 road loss to Mount St. Mary's at Knott Arena in Emmitsburg, Md.
 
Talia Dial led the Purple Eagles with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Kenedie Haruna provided a spark off the bench with nine points on 2-of-5 shooting while hitting 5-of-7 from the free-throw line.
 
The Purple Eagles showed resilience early, opening the game with a 4-0 run as Tyasia Freeman scored back-to-back layups, both assisted by Caliana Fenceroy. Niagara maintained competitive play throughout the first quarter, with Dial's 3-pointer at the 6:40 mark giving the team a 7-4 advantage.
 
A key sequence came late in the opening period when Dial drained another 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining to knot the score at 13-13.
 
The Purple Eagles demonstrated determination in the second quarter, piecing together a productive stretch that included Kenedie Haruna's layup and Jade Campbell's paint basket to build a 17-15 lead. Chasity Wilson added a crucial jumper to extend the advantage to 19-15 at the 6:15 mark.
 
Niagara's bench contributed 23 points, with Fenceroy distributing a game-high three assists while adding four points. Jade Campbell chipped in six points, and Jordyn Williams added three.
 
The Purple Eagles forced 26 turnovers and converted them into 21 points while recording 12 steals. Wilson led the defensive effort with three steals, while Fenceroy matched that total.
 
Niagara shot 34.0% from the field and connected on 13-of-27 free throws (48.1%). The Purple and White grabbed 32 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards that led to six second-chance points.
