Erie, Pa. – Men's Hockey got shut out 3-0 by Mercyhurst on Friday night at Erie Insurance Arena, dropping their record to 7-13-0 overall and 4-8-0 in league play.
Mercyhurst's Brendan Lamb broke through at 15:36, burying the game-winning goal with assists from Connor Pelc and Will Schumacher to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Purple Eagles came out firing in the opening frame, outshooting the Lakers 9-8, but couldn't solve Mercyhurst goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel.
Niagara continued the pressure in the middle frame, outshooting Mercyhurst 10-4, but once again could not solve Gravel stood tall once again. The Purple Eagles went to the second intermission still trailing 1-0.
With time running out Niagara pulled goaltender Tomas Anderson for the extra attacker at 18:07. Lamb struck for his second goal of the night at 18:17 to make it 2-0. After briefly returning Anderson to the net, Niagara pulled him again, only to surrender another empty-netter to Dominik Bartecko at 18:39, capping the 3-0 final.
Anderson finished with 14 saves on 15 shots in 59:29 of work, while Gravel earned the shutout with 26 saves for Mercyhurst.
