Niagara University, N.Y. — Niagara (3-19, 1-6 MAAC) dropped a conference doubleheader to Quinnipiac at the Niagara Softball Field. The Purple Eagles fell 8-5 in game one before dropping the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.
Game One: Purple Eagles 5, Bobcats 8
Niagara got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning when Sophia Marrero hit a solo home run.
The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the fourth with a home run of their own that plated two runs. Quinnipiac extended their lead in the fifth bringing home three more runs. Sofia Vega added three more insurance runs with a homer in the sixth inning.
The Purple Eagles tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning starting with an RBI single from CJ Haney. Niagara then scored two more runs from a Bobcats error. Lindsay Mayo singled to plate Hailey Cenname but it was not enough as the Bobcats were able to hold on.
Sage Jackson got the start in the circle for the Purple and White, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, punching out two batters. Aubrey Tamayo came in for relief to pitch the final 2.2 innings of the contest, allowing three runs on three hits.

Game Two: Purple Eagles 1, Bobcats 9
After two scoreless innings both teams traded runs in the third inning with Quinnipiac scoring in the top of the frame, while Mayo hit a sac fly to bring home Cenname.
The Bobcats took the lead in the fourth with a two RBI double before opening the floodgates in the fifth, making it a five run game highlighted by an RBI double from Madison Waltke.
Quinnipiac added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning with a two RBI double off the bat of Natalia Apatiga enacting the run rule.
Tamayo got the start in the nightcap allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings of work. Jackson came in for the final 2.0 innings of the game.
