Niagara Splits Doubleheader With St. Bonaventure

Olean, NY — Niagara (7-27, 4-13 MAAC) split a midweek doubleheader against St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies took the first game 9-8 (8), while the Purple Eagles won the nightcap 16-8 on Wednesday.

Game One

Both teams traded runs in the first inning, CJ Haney scored on a fielder's choice followed by Selah Moyer singling to plate Brianna Delaney. The Bonnies answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

St. Bonaventure gained the lead in the third with an RBI double. Both teams traded two runs in the fifth as Delaney singled to score Hailey Cenname and Natasha Limbani scored on a Jolyn Gibbons fielder's choice for Niagara.

Delaney gave the Purple Eagles the lead in the sixth with a two-RBI double to left-center. The Bonnies responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Sophia Marrero singled to plate Madison Lapenta and sent the game to extra innings.

St. Bonaventure came out on top, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Aubrey Tamayo got the start in the circle for the Purple and White, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. Abbey Steen came in for relief allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Game Two

Both teams plated four runs in the first inning. Limbani tripled to center to bring home Haney, Limbani then scored on a wild pitch. Moyer brought in a run with a sacrifice fly before Sophia Marrero singled to score Shayna Myshrall.

The Purple Eagles put up another four runs in the second, with Limbani once again scoring Haney followed by singles from Delaney and Moyer to plate three runs. St. Bonaventure scored once in the bottom of the frame.

Delaney brought home another run in the third, before Niagara plated four more runs in the fourth, highlighted by homers from Moyer and Cenname. Myshrall added another homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 10.

The Bonnies held off the run rule in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs. Gibbons tacked on one final run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to bring home Myshrall.

Jenna Martin got the start in the nightcap, allowing five runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of work. Moyer came in for relief, throwing the final 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. 

Niagara Notes

• Niagara is now 25-17 all-time against St. Bonaventure.

• Delaney went a perfect 4-for-4 in game one to tie her career high.

• Cenname went a combined 6-for-9 in the doubleheader.

• Moyer set career highs in hits and RBI with four a piece in game two.

• Moyer made her pitching debut in game two.

• The Purple Eagles put up a season-high 20 hits in the game two victory.
