Niagara Edges Creighton and N.C. Central Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla.— Niagara women's tennis began its Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla., with a pair of 4-3 wins over Creighton and N.C. Central on Wednesday.

Niagara's success came from a dominant doubles performance, where they claimed two of the three matches to secure the doubles point. Salonia Tamang and Mercedes Velasco earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Valeria Mora and Larisa Kotok closed out the doubles competition with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.

In singles play, Isabel Garcia gave Niagara momentum with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 win over Valerie Negin at the No. 2 position. Larisa Kotok added another point with her 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Philippa Roy at No. 3.

Salonia Tamang provided the decisive match victory for Niagara, defeating Karli Vo 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Creighton (8-6) claimed wins at the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles positions, with Bianca Rademacher and Elsa Jurrens posting particularly dominant victories. The final singles match saw Olivia Minikel outlast Mercedes Velasco in a three-set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

The Purple Eagles (4-9, 1-1 MAAC) claimed the crucial doubles point by winning two of three matches before splitting the singles competition to secure the overall victory.
 
The doubles tandem of Mercedes Velasco and Saloni Tamang set the tone with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Valeria Mora and Larisa Kotok clinched the doubles point with a tightly contested 7-6 (7-4) triumph at No. 3.
 
In singles play, Isabel Garcia delivered a resilient performance at No. 2, rallying from a set down to defeat Valeria San Miguel 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Tamang and Mora each secured critical three-set victories to seal the team win, with both players overcoming first-set deficits. Tamang prevailed 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5, while Mora completed her comeback with a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 6.
 
N.C. Central (4-5) found success through Alejandra Hidalgo, who dominated at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Gabriela Melo. The Eagles also claimed straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
