NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Despite a strong effort from
Amelia Strong's 16 points and eight rebounds, Niagara dropped its 18th straight game, falling to Marist 67-56 on Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (1-23, 0-16 MAAC) kept it close early, leading 14-10 after the first quarter behind Strong's inside presence. However, Marist (14-12, 9-7 MAAC) seized control with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Niagara 23-9 to take a 33-23 halftime lead.
Safiatu Kolliegbo added 10 points and five rebounds for Niagara, while
Jordyn Williams contributed 11 points off the bench. The Purple Eagles shot just 38.3 percent from the field and struggled from three-point range, connecting on only one of seven attempts.
Niagara showed fight in the second half, pulling within nine points late in the fourth quarter, but couldn't overcome Marist's balanced attack led by Danielle Williamsen's game-high 20 points.
