NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Talia Dial poured in a game-high 20 points as Niagara battled in its MAAC opener Friday night against Siena 107-69 at Gallagher Center in Niagara University, N.Y.
Dial shot 8-for-17 from the field and added two assists while leading the Purple Eagles' offensive effort.
Caliana Fenceroy contributed a strong all-around performance with 10 points.
Jade Campbell made her presence felt in the paint with nine rebounds and eight points, providing the Purple Eagles with second-chance opportunities. Campbell's work on the glass kept Niagara competitive on the boards, finishing even with Siena at 47 rebounds apiece.
The Purple Eagles showed resilience in the second quarter, outscoring Siena 24-15 to cut into the deficit. Niagara shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in the period and continued that accuracy in the fourth quarter, going 4-for-4 from the stripe.
Chasity Wilson added eight points while
Jordyn Williams chipped in six points and distributed five rebounds. The Purple Eagles forced 23 turnovers on defense and converted those into 16 points.
Niagara finished 14-for-16 from the free-throw line (87.5%) and held its own in the paint with 42 points.
The Purple Eagles in the second quarter outscored the Saints 24-15. However, Siena kicked off the third quarter going on a 16-0 run outscoring the Purple and White 34-8 in the third frame en route to a 38-point victory.
