Niagara University, NY – Niagara hockey defeated the United States National Team Development Program 4-1 in an exhibition contest Friday at Dwyer Arena.
Jacob Maillet opened the scoring at 6:30, finishing off a setup from Marshall Finnie to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Hunter Wallace extended the lead at the 15:38 mark with what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Wallace's tally, assisted by Jonathan Ziskie.
Parker Trottier broke through for the NTDP at 10:46, converting on the power play. Trottier's goal, assisted by Nelson and Dayne Beuker cutting the Niagara lead to 3-1. Tomas Andesron came in for relief for Mitchell Day after the goal.
Declan McDonnell restored the three-goal advantage just over six minutes later, scoring at 4:45 with help from Ethan Lund to make it 3-1.
Andy Reist put the game out of reach early in the final period, scoring unassisted at 10:03 to push the lead to 4-1.
Day made nine saves on 10 shots before giving way to Anderson, who was perfect with 12 saves in relief.
