Hockey Announces Leadership Group

Niagara University, N.Y—On Wednesday, Niagara hockey head coach Jason Lammers announced that Ethan Lund will serve as captain ahead of the 2025-26 season while Ross Roloson, Noah Hackett, Declan McDonnell and Spencer Young will serve as alternate captains.

Lund is entering his fourth season at Niagara. The Calgary, Alberta native will serve as the 31st captain in program history and is the first defenseman to dawn the "C" since Chris Harpur in 2021-22.

"Ethan has demonstrated exceptional leadership both on and off the ice, and he embodies everything we want in a captain, his work ethic, dedication and ability to elevate those around him make him the right choice to lead this team," Lammers said, "Noah, Spencer, Declan and Ross have also proven themselves as leaders in our locker room. Together this leadership group will set the standard for our program and help guide us through what we expect to be an exciting season."

Last season Lund skated in 26 games, tallying two goals and seven assists, while blocking 17 shots and posting a +10.

"It's a tremendous honor to be named captain this year. Wearing the 'C' in this room is something I take very seriously, and I'm humbled by the opportunity," Lund said, " We've got a locker room full of talented players, each bringing real value, and I believe we have the mix to challenge every opponent we face this season. My goal is to lead with energy, unity, and consistency, allowing us all to move in the same direction toward our full potential. Every voice in our room matters, and every individual brings something important to our success. Now in my fourth year with this program, I've been fortunate to learn from outstanding players and leaders whose examples continue to shape the way I lead today. I take great pride in wearing purple, and I'm eager to attack this season alongside my brothers."

Rolson enters his second season with the Purple Eagles after appearing in all 37 games for the Purple and White last season. Hackett begins his senior season as the Purple Eagles' highest returning point and goal scorer, posting 11 goals and 18 points last season. McDonnell joins the Purple Eagles from Saint Mary's University (USports) and Young beings his second season on the ridge after skating in 34 games and scoring 12 points during his freshman campaign.

The Purple Eagles open the 2025-26 season at Dwyer Arena on Oct. 5 against St. Lawrence.
