Peacocks Top Purple Eagles

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Niagara saw its losing streak extend to six games as Saint Peter's, led by Fatmata Janneh 22-point and 16-rebound double-double, pulled away for an 80-50 victory over the Purple Eagles in MAAC women's basketball action Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center.
 
How it Happened
The Peacocks (4-9, 2-2 MAAC) took control of the contest with a 15-2 run midway through the first quarter, resulting in a 21-11 lead after one period.
 
Outside of a quick 7-0 run to start the fourth by the Purple and White, the Peacocks maintained and steadily built their lead in the second half, pushing the margin to as many as 32 points in the final minute. They outscored Niagara in all four quarters while holding a 42-34 rebounding edge.
 
Safiatu Kolliegbo led Niagara (1-11, 0-4 MAAC) with 16 points, but the Purple Eagles struggled from the field, shooting just 31.6 percent (18-for-57) for the game. The Purple and White also committed 24 turnovers which Saint Peter's converted into 22 points.
 
Amelia Strong and Marlie Dickerson scored nine points apiece for Niagara.

• Niagara moves to 33-49 all-time against Saint Peter's, snapping its four-game win streak over the Peacocks.
• The Purple and White's 1-11 start to the season is its worst record through 12 games under head coach Jada Pierce.
