Purple Eagles Slide Continues with Loss to Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.Safiatu Kolliegbo scored 20 points, but Niagara women's basketball fell to Marist 74-52 on Tuesday night at McCann Arena.
 
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles briefly led 6-4 early but Marist responded with a 12-0 run and never trailed again, however, Marist (10-8, 5-3 MAAC) pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Niagara 21-9 to take a 36-19 halftime lead.
 
Morgan Lee led a balanced Marist attack with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Danielle Williamsen and Lexie Tarul added 13 and 12 points respectively for the Red Foxes.
 
Despite Kolliegbo's effort, which included six rebounds and three assists, Niagara (1-15, 0-8) dropped its eighth straight conference game. Talia Dial contributed nine points and Jade Rutledge added eight points and five rebounds for the Purple Eagles.
 
The Red Foxes shot 41.1 percent from the field while holding Niagara to just 26.9 percent shooting.
 
Marist dominated inside, outscoring Niagara 30-22 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 54-32.
 
Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White move to 18-40 all-time against Marist, including 12-19 at McCann Arena.
• Niagara committed a season-low 13 turnovers.
• The Purple Eagles field goal percentage of 26.9 is a season-low and their worst shooting performance since Nov. 25, 2023 vs. UCLA.
• Niagara has not had a double-digit losing streak since 2010-11 when it lost 24-straight games.
• Kolliegbo recorded her second game this season with 20 points.
• Rutledge matched her season-high with eight points.
