Niagara Posts Best Ever Finish in MAAC Commissioners Cup Standings

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the final 2023-24 Richard J. Ensor, Esq., Commissioners Cup Standings Wednesday afternoon with Niagara finishing third overall, its best overall finish since joining the MAAC in 1989-90.

"We are incredibly proud of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff for not just the competitive success but the continued academic excellence and servant leadership on campus and in the community," said Associate Vice President for Athletics Simon Gray. "The unprecedented and comprehensive success wouldn't be possible without the support of campus leadership and a belief in how Division I Athletics enhances a university."

Three Niagara programs won their tournament championships, including women's swimming winning the MAAC title for the second time in three years while the women's lacrosse and baseball programs earned their first-ever conference championships and bids to the NCAA Tournament.

"I am thrilled for the sustained success in our women's programs and first-time NCAA Tournament participation for baseball and women's lacrosse," stated Gray. "We will need the support of all Purple Eagles to maintain success in this evolving landscape."

Previously, Niagara has never finished higher than fifth overall in the MAAC Commissioners Cup Standings.

The Purple Eagles also posted a second-place finish in the women's standings, a university-best, as all 10 MAAC sponsored sports qualified for their respective championships, appearing in three title games and winning two.

The men's fifth-place finish is also a department-best as six of Niagara's seven MAAC sponsored varsity programs made it to their respective MAAC tournament, highlighted by baseball's league championship.
