Niagara Drops Sunday's Series Finale at Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Niagara (7-11, 2-1 MAAC) dropped the final game of its three-game set with Manhattan (4-20, 1-2 MAAC) on Sunday, March 24 by the final score of 8-4 in MAAC softball action from Gaelic Park.

How it Happened
After a pair of walks and a Jasper error loaded the bases for Niagara in the top of the first, Manhattan decided to make a change in the circle, replacing starter Ava Metzger with Mollie Charest just three batters into the contest.

Charest would strike out the first batter she faced before walking Selah Moyer to bring home the first run of the game and later in the inning Hailey Cenname would get plunked to make it 2-0 Niagara after a half inning of play.

The Jaspers would score one in the bottom half of the first and another in the second to tie the game at two.

Manhattan would strike for four runs in the bottom of the third, taking a 6-2 lead over Niagara.

Niagara would remain down by four heading into the top of the sixth where it would get one run back as a pair of singles led to a SAC fly RBI off the bat of Samantha Miller, cutting the Jasper lead in half, 6-3.

Manhattan tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, putting Niagara down by five, 8-3, heading into the seventh where Niagara would score one run as Sophia Marrero doubled home Maggie Kellner, before the Jaspers closed the door on the Purple Eagle comeback and secured the 8-4 win.

Niagara Notes
• Sunday's loss snapped Niagara's four-game win streak over the Jaspers.
• Moyer and Kellner each recorded two hits in the contest.
• Marrero notched her fifth RBI of the season, all of which came in the last two games against Manhattan.
Maddie Hickingbottom recorded a team-high four strikeouts.
