BALTIMORE, Md. – Niagara was shutout 2-0 by UAlbany Friday morning in its second game of the UMBC Spring Invite.
Sophomore
Kaylee Haines recorded two of Niagara's five hits and graduate student
Cara Leone finished with a complete game, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out one.
How it Happened
With the scored tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the second, Niagara would get a runner on with a one-out infield single from
Hailey Cenname, who later advanced to second before being stranded in scoring position.
UAlbany would score both of its runs in the top of the third as an error by freshman third baseman
Brianna Delaney later allowed two runs to come across. Leone would strand the Great Danes third run at second after getting a groundout to end the inning.
Haines singled to start the bottom of the third but would be erased on a double-play later in the inning, keeping the Danes ahead by two.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth,
Natasha Limbani and Haines recorded back-to-back singles, but Niagara would fail to push across a run as
Madison LaPenta flied out to left to end the frame.
Leone would work out of trouble in the seventh to keep the Purple Eagles within two heading into their final cuts.
Shayna Myshrall would single to left with two outs, however, Limbani would strike out to end the game.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara has now lost two-straight to UAlbany and are 1-5 against the Great Danes dating back to 2004.
• Haines recorded her first multi-hit game of the season and first of her career.
• Limbani has reached base safely in four-straight games with a hit in three of the last four.
• Leone notched her third career complete game.

The Purple and White will take on UAlbany and UMBC on Saturday, March 16. First pitch between Niagara and UAlbany is set for 2:30 p.m., while the game against the Retrivers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
