Angel Parker Breaks Program Steals Record In Blowout Win

Niagara University, N.Y.- The Niagara women's basketball team extended their win streak to eight games on Saturday as they dominated the Marist Red Foxes at home with a 90-64 win.

First Quarter

Niagara started hot in the first quarter scoring 26 compared to Marist's 15. Amelia Strong and Destiny Strother both scored six, and Angel Parker scored five. The Purple Eagles came out shooting 62.5% from the field and forced the Red Foxes to 37.5% from the field. The Purple and White forced six turnovers, four came from steals. Strong led the team with a total of two steals.

Second Quarter

The Purple Eagles added 18 more points to their lead in the second quarter giving them a 44-29 lead. Leading the way on offense was Marlie Dickerson scoring four. Off eight forced turnovers Niagara capitalized and score nine points. A career milestone was hit with Aaliyah Parker recording her 500th collegiate with two seconds left in the second quarter, her milestone came off a defensive rebound that was missed from the free throw line.

At the half

Niagara's lead was up to 15, making the score 44-29 through the first twenty minutes of the game. Eight different Purple Eagles contributed to the stat sheet. Strong and Strother both had nine while Aa. Parker and Chardonnay Hartley both had five. The Purple and White scored 14 points from the paint and off fast breaks.

Third Quarter

Niagara put up a total of 25 points in the third quarter advancing their lead to 27 points. Ary Hicks managed to score five points in just 5:12 of playing time in the third quarter. The Purple Eagles took a stand defensively forcing Marist to shoot 33.3% from the field and not allowing the Red Foxes to score turnovers or second-chance points.

Fourth Quarter

The Purple Eagles did not stop their scoring touch going into the final 10 minutes of the game, scoring 21 points. Of those 21 points, 14 points came from turnovers. Hartley scored a total of nine points in under eight minutes of playing time in the fourth quarter. Another milestone was recorded with An. Parker setting the program record in steals with 317 total steals. Her steal came off a lost ball turnover at the 8:17 mark in the fourth quarter.

Niagara Notes

·       This marked the 19th win of all time against Marist.

·       This was the first time since January 23, 2020, that the Purple Eagles have scored 90 plus points in a game.

·       The Purple Eagles are on an eight-game winning streak, dating back to the steak started on January 20th versus Quinnipiac.

·       An. Parker set Niagara's program record for steals recording her 317th steal.

·       Aa. Parker pulled down eight rebounds which surpassed the 500 mark and is now sitting at 505 total rebounds.

·       Hartley was the leading scorer with 14, followed was Strong with 13, and both Aa. Parker and Strother had 12.

·       Niagara is 7-0 when scoring 80 or more points in a game this season.

·       All 11 dressed Purple Eagles played in the game with each of them finding their way on the stat sheet.

·       The Purple Eagles are 8-3 at the Gallagher Center this season.
