BUFFALO, N.Y. — Niagara men's soccer's season came to a close Wednesday as they fell 1-0 to crosstown rival Canisius at the Demske Sports Complex in the season finale.
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (2-12-2, 0-7-1) played the final 32 minutes down a man after
Dominic Cintra was shown a red card in the 58th minute.
Despite the disadvantage, Niagara managed to hold off the Golden Griffins until the 84th minute, when Luke Szablewski broke through with the game's lone goal off an assist from Riley Wagner.
Niagara's offense generated chances throughout the match, outshooting Canisius 14-11, but could only put two shots on target.
Gianluca Del Priore led the Purple Eagles' attack with five shots, including a last-minute attempt that was saved by Canisius goalkeeper Jack Petrie.
Jamie Barry made four saves in goal for Niagara in the loss.

• The Purple Eagles move to 30-25-5 all-time against Canisius.
• Niagara went winless in MAAC play for the fourth time in program history, and first time since the 2015 season.
