ERIE, Pa. – Niagara women's bowling finished second overall at the Mercyhurst Invitational after a 4-2 overall day, including a trip to the title match against Wright State.
The Purple Eagles were led by sophomore
Kaelynn Weber who posted a 20.1 baker average, followed by freshman
Kate Ackerman who finished the day with a 20.0 average.
Baker Match 1: Niagara 904, D'Youville 751
Niagara topped the Saints by a total of 153 pins. The Purple and White jumped out to an 550-432 lead after three games en route to its first win of the day.
Baker Match 2: Niagara 877, William Smith 878
The Purple Eagles were narrowly defeated by William Smith in match two of the day as they held 733-711 lead into the final game. William Smith took the final game 167-144 to erase NU's 22-pin lead and take the match by one pin.
Baker Match 3: Niagara 1083, Mercyhurst 885
Niagara bounced back with a dominating win over the host Lakers.
Baker Match 4: Niagara 978, Kutztown 931
The Purple and White punched its ticket to the championship match against Wright State despite dropping the final two games of the match.
Title Match: Niagara 1012, Wright State 1071 (192-184, 150-154, 157-151, 187-203, 198-181, 128-178)
Niagara took the first game of the best-of-seven match with Wright State, however it fell in each of the next three before taking game five, 198-181. Wright State sealed the win with a 50-pin win in game six.
