YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Niagara University women's bowling took three of five baker matches on day one of the Youngstown State Penguin Classic.
Senior
Mackenzie Smith led the way with a 20.4 baker frame average, followed by
Brianna Thurston at 18.9 and
Taylor Strickland at 18.6.
Baker Match 1: Niagara 842, Nebraska 1113
Niagara dropped its first match of the day to Nebraska despite taking the first game 187-168, but the Cornhusker's would take each of the next four game to earn the dominate win.
Baker Match 2: Niagara 878, Lewis 810
The Purple and White bounced back with a 68-pin win over Lewis. Niagara took game one and two to jump out to an early advantage, and after dropping game three, responded with a 202-164 win in game four to seal the win.
Baker Match 3: Niagara 944, Youngstown State 1024
Youngstown State topped NU by 80-pins despite the Purple Eagles taking each of the three games before falling by a combined score of 462-335 to edge Niagara.
Baker Match 4: Niagara 1038, Central Missouri 913
Niagara once again bounced back for its second win of the day, defeating Central Missouri by 125-pins and putting up its highest score of the day.
Baker Match 5: Niagara 872, Bryant 782
The Purple and White capped the day off with a 90-pin win over Bryant.
